This past Summer, Ceecee and I got to sit and have lunch with Kate MacMurray at her ranch near Healdsburg, Ca. The wines MacMurray produces are superb, and the beauty of the day remains with us still.
Tonight, I cooked a fall dinner for my wife and we paired it with MacMurray’s 2009 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. The marriage of the foods with the wine was intentional and the results were beyond satisfactory.
I made bacon wrapped turkey fillets seasoned with tarragon, mashed sweet potatoes with butter and brown sugar, and apples cooked in brown sugar and Marsala. Everything blended well and the wine shone brightly as the star of the show.
At this time of the year, a rich, flavorful Chardonnay like MacMurray will accompany many of the seaonal dishes with elegance and style. Turkey and dressing, butternut squash soup, ham, and other holiday meals will not only make good matches, but can be enhanced by stepping up from the everyday, value wines to higher quality bottlings.
MacMurray Sonoma Coast wines, whether the Chardonnay or the Pinot Noir, are excellent choices on Thanksgiving Day and throughout the holidays. You can also give them as gifts to the wine lovers on your list. I prominse you, they won’t be disappointed.
